Fortress Bakhmut: Stories of Residents from a City in Donetsk Oblast Devastated by the Enemy

Bakhmut’s residents remember their hometown vividly, as if they had left it just yesterday — blooming, cozy, and full of energy. A city that could have had a bright future, but the russian invasion turned Bakhmut into a landscape of ruins, devoid of life. After frenzied shelling, on August 1, 2022, the Russian occupiers began a "ground operation" in Bakhmut...

A thousand days of full-scale war have passed. Bakhmut is alive in the hearts of those who love it. These people have entrusted their stories about the city’s residents, streets, homes, about the war, pain, and hope to the Museum of Civilian Voices. The collection of Bakhmut residents’ stories is both shocking and moving, offering strength to all Ukrainians, as each story carries a message of hope.
