Over the 1,000 days since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the country has endured immense losses and unimaginable challenges. Yet these dark times have also revealed extraordinary resilience, unity, and the determination of a nation fighting for its freedom and future.
Since the beginning of Russia’s aggression in 2014, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has tirelessly supported those in need. Its initiatives include medical treatment and rehabilitation for wounded children and adults, psychological counselling, the distribution of food and medical supplies, and the provision of essential healthcare equipment. To date, the Foundation has implemented over 70 social programmes and projects.
Since the onset of the war, the Foundation has distributed over 13 million food packages and 800,000 medical kits and pieces of equipment. It continues to provide rehabilitation for adults and children injured in the conflict. Since 2014, more than 11,000 Ukrainians have benefited from medical treatment and rehabilitation funded by the Foundation.
Children remain a particular focus of the Foundation’s efforts. Over 5 million children have received vital support. On this symbolic 1,000th day of war, additional assistance is being delivered to the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital, including new medical equipment in three planned phases. Previously, the Foundation donated modern ambulances to the hospital.
Last year, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation joined the pilot social housing project “IAmMariupol.Housing”. As the main Ukrainian donor of this initiative, the Foundation has equipped shared spaces and built a playground for displaced residents of Mariupol.
The Museum of Civilian Voices by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation represents a cornerstone of its work. This extensive archive now holds over 120,000 first-hand accounts, serving as both a vital historical record and a foundation for prosecuting war crimes. The Museum stands as a source of truth, chronicling the tragedy Ukraine has endured since 2014.
To commemorate 1,000 days of full-scale war, the Museum has launched a special project titled “1,000 Days. Thousands of Stories.” This collection highlights 20 key milestones from the war, offering a powerful reflection on the experiences of Ukrainians. You can explore these stories here.
For 19 years, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been a lifeline for people in need, and its work continues. If you or your loved ones require assistance, please call the Foundation’s toll-free hotline at 0 (800) 509 001, or reach out via Messenger.
