The American embassy insisted on her leaving Ukraine a month before the beginning of a full-scale war, but her family stayed. Khrystyna Katrakis is a Ukrainian-American artist whose paintings are in private collections of world famous personalities – former US President Bill Clinton, Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney. She has also been an ambassador for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Fund for many years. And Khrystyna is the daughter of the Ukrainian sculptor Anatolii Kushch. He is the author of the 42-meter monument to the independence of Ukraine on the capital’s Maidan. So Khrystyna became the prototype of Ukraine.
The war completely changed the life of Khrystyna and her family. Even the 6-year-old son now lives to help other people. Khrystyna Katrakis told us about the center for IDPs in Varokhta, about assistance to the eastern regions and impressions from the destroyed Izium and Lyman.
