Olena is from Mariupol. She never thought that her city would become the epicentre of one of Russia's most brutal war crimes. The first months of the war turned her life into a nightmare. Everyone was in constant fear, without electricity, water or heat. Olena often recalled the despair when there was no news of her loved ones and the sirens did not stop. They lived under constant bombardment, and every new day was a test of endurance. Hunger, lack of medicine, cold - this became a new reality for Olena's family. Together with other residents, they tried to cook food over a fire. The worst thing for Olena was seeing civilians die.
