Mariia lives on the 14th floor in Obolon, from there she could see “half of Kyiv” and hear explosions, so she felt like the war was very close. She spent the first night in the basement and only then realized that it was not the safest shelter.
The family did not want to leave. But her daughter-in-law was 7 months pregnant. Therefore, on March 15, Mariia and her family took a train to western Ukraine. Through Facebook, they managed to find the necessary accomodations – housing and the supervision of an obstetrician. “A fantastic place, a village between the mountains,” Mariia recalls.
There, the family lit a real stove for the first time. There, they felt the support of local residents, who helped not only with things, but also psychologically.
