Olena Yatsenko's story reveals her dramatic escape from Donetsk in 2014 and her survival during the shelling in Pokrovsk in 2022-2023. During the ten years of hostilities in Donbas, Olena was constantly trying to find a safer city for her children. After Donetsk, it was Kurakhove, and then the family settled in Pokrovsk.

Olena could always find a word of support not only for her family but also for others. After all, she worked for the state social security department. In October 2023, the Russian army launched a missile attack on the town's social infrastructure. In addition to Olena, there were about fifty people in the social security department. Two missiles hit the building five minutes apart. One person died on the spot and another in hospital. Another 24 were injured to varying degrees. This moment was a turning point in her life.
