During the occupation of Katyuzhanka, the local school became a command post for the Russian invaders. From the first day of the full-scale war, the villagers hid from shelling in their cellars. On February 26, they were all brought out into the yard. One woman was sent to get the school principal, Mykola Artemovych Mykytchyk. He came without hesitation because he was afraid that otherwise one of his fellow villagers might be shot. However, he did not cooperate with the occupiers.
