“Yuri Prilipko did not live to see the day he so dreamed of. Gostomel became a city." Yuriy Prilipko, the head of the city council of Gostomel, was shot dead when, together with volunteers, he was delivering humanitarian aid to the residents of the city.
It’s Hostomel, a town near Kyiv. On the first day of war it became a flashpoint. There is Antonov international airport. It is a key strategic object.
Fierce battles lasted in this district for several days. Hostomel received an honorable title of “city-hero of Ukraine”. 5 other towns fighting against russian occupiers received it as well.
“Yuriy Prylypko dreamed of Hostomel to become a city. It’s such a pity that he will not live to see it” – commented his colleagues from Hostomel village council on March the 7th. It appeared that russian occupies murdered a mayor of Hostomel.
It happened when Yuriy, together with other volunteers, was delivering humanitarian aid. Ruslan Karpenko and Ivan Zorya were killed as well.
Later it appeared that the body of Yuriy was mined. That was reported by local priest Petro, who came to take the body of the deceased.
Rest in peace!
