For Ivanna from Markhalivka in the Kyiv region, the war began with loud explosions. Neighbouring Vasylkiv was bombed. And on March 4, 2022, two bombs were dropped on her native village. Unfortunately, there were casualties. Therefore, the children and their grandson were sent to Ternopil region. Ivanna, her husband and elderly aunt stayed at home.
She cooked meals for the Ukrainian military and taught her students remotely. In late summer, their house was attacked. It burned down in a matter of hours. Miraculously, the most important things survived - documents and the flag of Ukraine. Friends and strangers helped to buy a temporary house, where the same flag is now flying.
