In the first days of the full-scale invasion, starosta Liudmyla Zakabluk began to prepare actively to defend the community. Residents of the villages along Zhytomyr highway suffered the most from a convoy of Russian vehicles moving toward Kyiv. Liudmyla tells how the invaders shot civilians on the road, how civilians rescued the wounded and gathered the remains of the killed. Despite the threats to her life, Liudmyla stayed. Throughout the occupation, the woman carried a grenade in her pocket in case she met the enemy. She did not want to surrender without resistance.
