Roman lived in Huliaypole for the first 10 months of the full-scale war, and despite his fear, he gradually got used to the situation. Active shelling began in March 2022, and russian troops quickly approached their region. Most residents evacuated, but Roman and his parents stayed behind. He recalls two serious shelling incidents that took place in his yard. The first one did not cause any serious damage, but the second one wounded him a month later. Roman was three meters away from the landing site, and he was severely injured, resulting in the loss of his eyesight. He was evacuated to a hospital where he underwent eye surgery.
