Valentyna still shudders from the loud sounds. Two days under almost continuous russian shelling from all types of weapons left no choice – they had to get out of this hell. She remembered leaving Pokrovske village in Bakhmutskyi district for the rest of her life. An old Zhiguli, barely running on two litres of petrol, drove her family of eight to Bakhmut under mortar fire. And then one missile attack followed another – throughout the endlessly long journey to Kyiv. Now, at night, Valentyna dreams of her home, of which only a burnt part remains, but she does not give up hope of ever setting foot on her native land.
