Occupation of Melitopol: Eyewitness Accounts of the russian Invasion in Their Hometown

On March 1, 2022, the Ukrainian city of Melitopol was fully occupied by russian invaders. Threats became a part of daily life for the residents who stayed behind. However, despite the fear and danger, people took to the streets in protest, defending their right to freedom.

The stories of those who survived the enemy invasion in their hometown reveal a shared, bitter truth about life under occupation. These are stories of loss, intimidation, and fear – but also of a clear awareness of their Ukrainian identity, and an unyielding determination to continue the fight. Each story is a testament to the fact that, in the darkest times, the dignity of the Ukrainian people only grows stronger.
